Pdf Summary
These instructions outline the steps for using a Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI) with a holding chamber. First, the cap of the MDI should be removed and the MDI should be shaken well. Next, the MDI is attached to the holding chamber. The user should sit up straight or stand, exhale fully, and then close their lips around the mouthpiece of the holding chamber, making a tight seal. The user should press down on the MDI to release a dose of medicine into the chamber.

After removing the MDI from their mouth, the user should hold their breath for 10 seconds. If they are unable to hold their breath for that long, they should hold it for as long as they can. The user should then take a slow, deep breath through their mouth, trying to fill up their lungs completely.

If another dose of medicine is needed, the user should wait for 1 minute before shaking the inhaler again and repeating steps 3 through 6. After taking the last puff of medicine, the MDI should be removed from the chamber and both devices should be recapped. If the medicine is a corticosteroid, the user should rinse their mouth out with water and spit it out, without swallowing it.
