Pdf Summary
The Thoracic Tumor Board, comprising of various experts in the field, discussed multiple case scenarios involving patients with lung cancer. In Case 1, a 64-year-old man with a history of chest pain and a ground glass opacity (GGO) on a chest CT was recommended serial observation. After a year, the GGO increased in size and another follow-up CT was recommended. In Case 2, a 61-year-old woman with a history of atypical chest pain underwent mediastinoscopy and lobectomy due to the presence of adenocarcinoma in the right middle lobe. No further treatment was recommended, and the patient has been stable for 3 years. Case 3 involved a 65-year-old man with a high risk of lung cancer due to his smoking history. The patient had a screening CT which revealed a nodule in the left lower lobe. A superior segmentectomy was performed and the patient has been doing well post-surgery. In Case 4, an 80-year-old woman with previous pneumonia underwent a CT-guided biopsy which confirmed adenocarcinoma. The patient received SBRT to both lesions and a new nodule was later discovered in the right middle lobe. SBRT was performed on the new nodule and although the patient eventually passed away due to unrelated complications, there was no evidence of recurrent lung cancer. Overall, the cases highlight the importance of careful evaluation and individualized treatment decisions in managing early stage lung cancer.
