This spotlight addresses several timely topics including diagnostic evaluation, guideline updates, lung cancer and the role of the pulmonologist, biomarkers and staging, lung cancer disparities, and survivorship.
  1. Describe disparities related to lung cancer screening and strategies to mitigate them.
  2. Describe three strategies for improvement of lung cancer tissue adequacy in the era of molecular profiling in NSCLC.
  3. Review the immunology of lung cancer as relevant to immunotherapy, and how to obtain adequate samples.
  4. Recognize the radiographic features of subsolid lung nodules that are most worrisome and may warrant a more invasive approach.
  5. Describe disparities in lung cancer screening.
  6. Review the unique advantages and disadvantages of the two currently available robotic bronchoscopic platforms and the current literature that exists regarding each platform.
  7. Review indications and techniques for bronchoscopic and percutaneous intratumoral injections.
  8. Delineate the most common primary pleural tumors, and the updated histological classification of malignant mesothelioma.
  9. Develop familiarity with evaluation and treatment options during lung cancer survivorship, including home-based physical activity, evaluation/treatment for sleep disturbance, screening for and managing depression, and identifying and treating functional deconditioning.
