Pdf Summary
The document discusses the different levels of severity for asthma. There are four levels: intermittent asthma, mild persistent asthma, moderate persistent asthma, and severe persistent asthma. It is important to note that asthma can change over time in response to triggers, so a person's level of severity can go up or down at any time. Therefore, it is crucial to continuously monitor and manage asthma, even when it appears to be under control.

In terms of symptoms, intermittent asthma is characterized by daytime symptoms occurring less than three times a week and nighttime symptoms less than two times a month. Mild persistent asthma has daytime symptoms occurring 3-6 times a week and nighttime symptoms 3-4 times a month. For moderate persistent asthma, daytime symptoms occur every day, and nighttime symptoms are present 5 or more times a month, but not every night. Severe persistent asthma includes continuous daytime symptoms and nighttime symptoms every night.

The use of a rescue inhaler differs among the levels of severity. For intermittent asthma, the rescue inhaler is used 2 or fewer days a week. Mild persistent asthma requires the use of a rescue inhaler more than 2 days a week, but not daily. Moderate persistent asthma needs the rescue inhaler daily, and severe persistent asthma requires its use several times a day.

Lastly, limitations to daily activities also vary depending on the level of severity. Intermittent asthma does not impose any limitations on activities of daily living. Mild persistent asthma results in minor limitations. With moderate persistent asthma, there are increased limitations more than 2 times per week. Severe persistent asthma causes extreme limitations to activities of daily living.

Overall, understanding the level of severity of asthma and its fluctuating nature is crucial for effective monitoring and management.
