Pdf Summary
To use a dry powder inhaler (DPI), begin by opening the mouthpiece or removing the cap. Hold the inhaler horizontally to your mouth and do not shake it. Load a dose of medicine by pulling back the lever. Then, turn your head away from the DPI, take a deep breath, and blow it out. Place the inhaler between your lips and form a tight seal with your lips. Take a deep, quick breath in through your mouth, hold your breath for 10 seconds (or as long as you can), and then remove the inhaler from your mouth and breathe out slowly away from it. If you need another puff, wait 1 minute before repeating the process. After your last puff, close the DPI to cover the mouthpiece and rinse your mouth out with water, making sure to spit it out instead of swallowing it. The dose counter on the inhaler will display the number of doses remaining. DPIs deliver asthma medication through a fine powder that can be inhaled with a deep breath.
